An original, hand-printed, hand-painted letterpress print—this is not a reproduction! This piece is part of the “Local Conditions” series, which depicts Washington’s Mt. Rainier from a variety of different vantage points.
This location is one of the most well-known and oft-photographed views of Tacoma, Washington, and is frequently pictured on postcards and souvenirs. Mount Rainier towers over the skyline of the city, but a girl walking along the path brings the scene back to an intimate point of view. The high-tide waters of Puget Sound lap at the rocky shore, and the whole scene evokes our flawless summer days—Washington’s best kept secret.
This artwork was letterpress printed by hand on an antique Vandercook No. 4 press, on soft white Rives Lightweight paper. Each print in the edition was then painstakingly hand-painted with watercolor.
