A hand-lettered illustration of a Texas rainbow cactus in full bloom! This archival giclee reproduction print is part of the ongoing Succulent! series—look for more collectible prints to be added to the shop soon.

This illustration is inspired by my sketches of cactus blossoms in Big Bend National Park, located in the Chihuahuan Desert of southwest Texas. (You can see those sketches in this post.) The Texas rainbow cactus is a spectacular resident there, with alternating bands of color showing from beneath its pale spines. The plant most commonly blooms in bright yellow, but when I stumbled upon this rarer deep pink specimen on a hike, I knew I’d found my inspiration.
