Seattle is one of the most tow-happy cities I’ve ever encountered. If you’ve ever tried to decipher the convoluted weekday parking rules downtown here (where signs say things like, oh, I dunno, “2-hour parking except third Wednesdays in months with an “R” in them, between 3 and 6 pm, and then only if driver is wearing red hat and matching lipstick”), you’ll know what I’m talking about.
But you know, if I ever got towed by a tow truck with actual toes on it…I might be a little more forgiving.
Wonderful sketch! Classic. So many of us have sketched this multiple times while visiting MOHAI for Gabi’s exhibit.
And about parking signs: “no parking north of here”. Half the time I do not know which direction is north so how do I know where I can park! And is that in front of or behind the sign?
Thanks! And I hear you about the signs—I’m usually good with the “north” bit (though the downtown streets in Seattle at a 45° angle, so where does that leave us??), but then when it’s not clear which side of the sign they mean—signs which half the time I don’t notice until *after* I’ve taken the trouble to parallel park backwards up a steep hill—I’m ready to cry.
Is your “Lincoln’s Toe Truck” available for purchase? I grew up in Seattle, passing this everytime we got off I-5, but now live on the East coast & would love to have reminders of “home”. I’ve got your Pink Elephant print on my wish list too! Brings back so many memories & makes me home-sick. Thank you!
