You know, I stopped to sketch this guy (and suffered my least favorite sound in the world) because the bizarre combination of Scots and Salish is exactly the kind of melting-pot absurdity that I love. But then afterward, it occurred to me that if I had to pick just one sketch to sum up Victoria’s history, this might be it.
Chandler, I’m fairly certain I could not love this sketch anymore than I currently do. The colors, the bagpipes, and the annotations especially are all just so wonderful – thanks for sharing this slice from British Columbia with us! xo
You’ve captured the dichotomy of two cultures thriving together in one beautiful city! I love Victoria!
I love bagpipes (my Alma mater has a bagpipe corp in the marching band and they practiced next to my dorm so I grew to love them – it was less stressful than hating them haha!) I also love totem animal carvings so put the two together and I definitely love this piece!
Ha! The Tailor loves bagpipe music, so he was in heaven. I keep trying to like them; maybe one of these days I’ll come around…
